How we helped communicate a cutting edge technology
General Atomics’ Electromagnetic Systems (EMS) Division is the nation’s pre-eminent integrator of advanced, high-power electromagnetic and electromechanical systems for military, transportation, energy, and research applications.
CHALLENGE
Our mission was to create a series of video programs that clearly communicate the value of these powerful electromagnetic launch technologies to key constituencies, while reinforcing the practicality and potential near-term application of game-changing systems.
SOLUTION
General Atomics is widely recognized as a technology leader. Building upon the organization’s proven foundation of success, we created a Division “overview” video augmented by a series of supporting videos that each focused on a specific application and unique customer need.
Operations footage shot in multiple test facilities across the country visually reinforced the viability of near-term success. Sophisticated 3D motion graphics illustrated integration into futuristic platforms and systems. These included animations of EMALS, an advanced aircraft launch system; electric drive for the next generation of naval vessels; ground-based levitated flight; the MAGLEV high speed train system; and the revolutionary Blitzer Electromagnetic Railgun.
Designed for cost-effective upgrade, the video animations have evolved to mirror technology and product improvements as programs progress. For example, a new video of Blitzer marries legacy footage to updated animations showcasing design, mission and timeline evolution.
RESULTS
This visualization outreach strategy has helped the client communicate sophisticated concepts clearly, consistently, and effectively to highly targeted audiences. As DVD standalones, briefing support, and/or online communication tools, the approach has proven extremely flexible and very cost effective.
